Stop talking and fix roads, WNB governor

WEST New Britain Governor Sasindran Muthuvel’s statements are becoming rhetorical and they cannot go unchallenged.

The grower communities in WNBP do not need to be told or misled on who is supposed to fix their roads.

The roads in Hoskins, Buvusi, Galai and other areas are fixed by NBPOL.

NBPOL has been fixing and maintaining smallholder roads for years, not the WNB provincial government.

The recent floods damaged Aum and Buluma Ko bridges and they were repaired by NBPOL.

The by-pass at Buluma was also built by NBPOL.

The Buluma bridge links the Hoskins Airport.

While NBPOL is busy and stretched repairing damaged smallholder and main roads and bridges, the governor called on NBPOL to provide cash advance to growers affected by rain and floods.

We do not know if this request was discussed and agreed with NBPOL before he made the announcement.

What is clear to the growers is that NBPOL will not pay cash advance to the growers.

The governor should realise that the company provides tools and fertilisers on credit to the growers and does not pay or give cash advance.

What is the point of creating false expectations in the media?

What the communities need right now is restoration of damaged roads so we have access to services and sell our produce.

Perhaps the governor should be more specific on what smallholder roads the provincial government has fixed or will be fixing.

The least the governor could have done was to thank NBPOL for what it had done for the growers.
