Stop undermining our potential

Letters

I AM disappointed with the headline “Kumuls in Tough Pool” in Monday’s back page (Jan 20) of The National.
To say that Kumuls are in a tough pool undermines the quality of players that PNG Rugby Football League has developed over the years.
We, as a nation, have proven that we can compete in any pool.
We have proven that last year when Kumuls defeated the British Lions.
We even went close to defeating the current number one in world rankings (Kiwis) in the nines.
Thus, to say that we are in a tough pool is rubbish.
We should not undermine our potential.
Please, be positive, or the world might think we are scared.
Furthermore, looking at the pools, I cannot identify any easy pool.

  • First set of play in the first half of the Kumuls vs England game and England was already near PNG Kumuls tryline. Shows our still very poor defensive efforts. PNG players definatly lack up and meet fitness entire 40 minutes. They are too slow in their up and meet. Regular miss tackles very obvious especially by hunters and digicel cup players in the team, emotions and motivations seems to be only driven by crowd or when somebody does a strong tackle then everyone fires up…which has always been the same year in year out. We definitely win more games if we just get this DEFENSIVE issues polished in these season’s digicel cup and even hunters games so any selected players are already at that level when they begin prep for the world cup.
    Just my thoughts!
