NATIONAL Capital District Commission health enforcers are warning PMV drivers and their crew operating through the Tabari bus station at 4-Mile to stop urinating there.

A strong smell of human excretion and rubbish can be smelt and spotted near the bus ramp where  downtown buses park.

According to NCDC chief health inspector Isoa Morea: “It is a serious health hazard to dispose of human waste along public areas which everyone uses regularly.” Morea said bus operators and street vendors should respect public infrastructure and is urging them to prevent the unhealthy practice as the NCDC urban safety unit would be monitoring the bus stop.

According to Paul Komboi, urban safety director: “Offenders caught urinating at the bus stop will face a fine under the NCDC offence act as well as the summary offence act of the criminal law of exposure in public.

“PMV operators have to be mindful that they are in the city and not in their gardens where they can just go when trying to relieve themselves. Common sense.

“City authorities are doing their best to clean the city during the Pacific Games and yet some selfish people do not appreciate such citywide initiatives we are experiencing.”

Morea is appealing to the public to refrain from the unhealthy habit of urinating in public places and to make use of the public toilets to prevent disease.

“NCDC has provided portable toilets in and around the city and at the park and ride locations and the public can go there to use and them. They are free of charge and are well cared for by our contractors,” Morea said.

Komboi is appealing to NCD police to assist the urban safety unit to discourage people from using the 4-Mile station as a public toilet area.
