The launching of a five-year Strategic Plan (2022 to 2027) will require funding, says Auditor-General Gordon Kega.
Kega said the plan was only on paper and to implement would need funding as their annual budget of K21 million was not sufficient.
He said from an annual allocation of K38 million, the AGO budget had been reduced to K21 million over the years.
The Auditor General’s Office launched its five-year development plan which outlined the office’s commitment to prioritise resources into areas that would maximise value for external and internal stakeholders in terms of enhanced accountability and transparency and also improve public confidence.
Kega said the strategic plan team had been working since February to complete the plan.
“This would be the time to work harder to achieve our goals. Tough times are for us to get tougher and don’t use the current situation as a negative but a springboard.
“There will be pressure on our budget and funding this year and for the next five years, but I’m satisfied that this initial imbalance will be overcome to produce greater success in the long run.”
Kega said one of the challenges facing the AGO was that since the last corporate plan was issued there had been an expansion of government agencies and changes in the way programmes and services were provided.
He said this had meant more responsibility for his office.
“The plan recognises our commitment to building capability and public confidence and it highlights our desire to engage positively and transparently.”
