THE National Transport Strategy (NTS) was launched at Parliament house this week.

Transport Minister Ano Pala said during the launch that PNG was on the threshold of an era that was going to lead to the achievement of the Government’s Vision 2050 and the transport sector was a vital part of it

“Transport is not only an important medium for economic development but also a front put up by us for visitors and investors,” he said.

Pala said the strategy would act as guide to the transport sector in the next 20 to 30 years.

“The content of the strategy sheds light on the policy setting outlining its focuses, the transport structure and its role in a country’s development, government and private sector roles in relation to the system and solutions and plans to improve,” he said.

Transport Secretary Roy Mumu commended stakeholders and individuals involved in the research and compilation of the strategy, including the Asian Development Bank and AusAID, for providing financial and logistical assistance.

“We all have a role to play here because this development will impact the lives of every one of us,” Mumu said.
