THERE is increasing concern that part of Third Street in Top Town will be closed off and developed as a part of major project in one of Lae’s prime areas.
Confidential documents indicate that Post PNG is the new title holder of the land which is section 2, allotment 78.
Post PNG has plans to re-zone, subdivide and sell sections of the land including half of the Third street road, documents show.
The public road connects the re-constructed IPI building, Lae post office, a new luxurious hotel currently constructed by Capital Land, and several other small businesses and residences.
Post PNG chief executive officer Peter Maiden did not want to respond to questions on the concerns raised and suggested that the local authorities should explain instead.
Lae acting city manager Murewe Zurenuoc and officers from the division of lands and physical planning were not available for comment.
But residents, business houses and a reputable business insider are concerned that cutting off a public road and will have a negative impacts on the city’s business operations.
