Street vendors and Apec

Letters

IN response to the comments raised by Sgt Joe, JTSF Advocator, in response to my letter published last month, there are several questions I raised which Sgt Joe failed to answer.
I am not going to argue, but to further emphasise on my question that is not answered.
Sgt Joe’s point is about the safety and security of the Apec delegates and visitors.
This totally has nothing to do with a simple street vendor who does his marketing on the streets in order to live a life.
When vendors are chased and stopped from their doing their sales, they turn to petty crimes as a source of income to sustain their lives.
In a democratic country like Papua New Guinea, everyone has the right to do whatever is right under any circumstances to live.
You cannot deprive anyone’s right even if it’s the informal sector.
My question had nothing to do with the safety of the delegates or visitors, cultures, or the cleanliness and beautification of the city.
My question is about street vendors, thye rising number of unemployed in the city, and the lack of a proper education system and health infrastructure.
Therefore, despite Apec or whatever the Government is trying to do, at the end of the day we are what we are.
