This is 26-year-old Moira Kapin, a wood machinist tradeswoman at the Timber and Forestry Training College (TFTC) in Lae, Morobe province. Ms Kapin is the only female tradeswoman who works at the college’s wood and machinery section. She is seen here working on a planer and moulder machine, used to smooth wood surfaces. The final products from the machine include weatherboards and flooring. Ms Kapin was a recipient of the New Zealand government’s Women in Agriculture (WiA) scheme that is funded under the New Zealand Aid (NZAID) donor assistance programme. She said its tough working in a male-dominated field but she enjoyed the challenge and satisfaction after completing her tasks.
