HEAVY rain and strong winds have caused power outages in Kimbe, West New Britain since the weekend, PNG Power says.
Company chief executive officer Tony Koiri said “a heavy down pour and flooding in the early hours of Saturday, January 28, caused a tree near the Water PNG pump station to fall causing excessive damage to high voltage power lines”.
Koiri said the company’s linesmen were initially involved in isolating the fault area and started restoration work soon after.
“Affected consumers were gradually restored power throughout the day in spite of the conheavy downpour.
“By 6.30pm power supply was fully restored,” he said.
He said with the forecast for more rain and windy conditions, people should expect power disruptions during the coming days and report any outages or downed power lines by contacting numbers 983 4053, 983 5456 or the National Call Centre numbers 7198 1000, 7198 1001, 7198 1002 or 7198 1003.
