THE three students who were killed in a road accident last week have been laid to rest at their villages in Penda and Kutunga of Dei district, Western Highlands.
Sakias Joe, 18, was a Grade 12 student; Angra Tiki, 17, and Junior Anton, 17, were students of Anglimp Secondary School.
They were killed at the Kindeng section of the Highlands Highway in Jiwaka last Monday when a vehicle swerved off the road and hit them. They were on their way to school. The vehicle belonged to a man from Kol district in Jimi.
Their funeral service at the Penda Primary School ground was attended by Anglimp Secondary School principal George Rambang, students, former Dei MP Puri Ruing, peace mediators and relatives.
Ruing said the young men lost their lives as a result of careless driving. He said the three were walking on the side of the road when they were hit.
Ruing said the incident was most likely to create trouble in the area.
He urged Jiwaka Governor William Tongamp and Jimi MP Mai Dop to discuss the matter with the vehicle owner and resolve the problem amicably.
Rambang said he had lost three good students whose education was prematurely ended. He said it was great loss for the school, community, province and the country.
