Student questioned over principal’s death
The National, Monday 23rd April 2012
A FORMER student of Nuku High School in West Sepik, is being questioned at the Vanimo police station over the shooting of the school’s headmaster early this year.
Provincial police commander Michael Tilae said last week the suspect was an alleged accomplice of another former student who shot the headmaster when they confronted him at his office.
Tilae said the suspect was a teenager between 16 and 17 but declined to give any other details for security reason.
The teenager was locked at the Aitape police cell last week and transferred to Vanimo by boat over the weekend.
Tilae said the suspect who pulled the trigger had been killed by students who chased the pair into bushes immediately after the shooting.
He said it was another case that police would have to look into.
Police believe another two accomplices of the teenager are hiding somewhere in Wewak, East Sepik.
Tilae commended the people in West Sepik, saying no major incidents had been reported to police in the past two weeks.
