PNG students returning home from universities in China are required to produce medical clearance forms to prove they are safe from the coronavirus.
Acting Health Secretary Paison Dakulala said everyone had to go through the process to protect the country from the coronavirus.
“This also applies to all Papua New Guinea citizens coming from affected countries,” he said.
Dakulala said it was a directive from the Immigration and Border Security Department in consultation with other government departments and agencies.
Meanwhile, the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) has set up a help desk to assist parents and relatives of those living in affected areas contact them.
Minister for Foreign Affairs and International Trade Patrick Pruaitch will be seeking Cabinet support to provide assistance to PNG students in Wuhan.
“The department is maintaining communication with PNG students and citizens in Wuhan and Beijing through our official diplomatic representation there,” he said.
“And the PNG Embassy in China will also be supplying this help desk with status reports regularly.”
Parents and Relatives can contact the help desk DFAIT on the email address: [email protected] and on telephone numbers (+675) 301 4131 and (+675) 310 4115.
