ACTING Morobe administrator Sheila Harou has assured students from the province who graduated last week at the University of Papua New Guinea that they will receive their degrees and diplomas next week.
The students were not given their degrees and diplomas because the province had not paid their tuition fees in full. Fees have to be paid in full before the documents can be released.
The students were part of the Morobe government’s Gerson Solulu Scholarship programme. According to Harou, pictured, the provincial government owed the university
about K1.2 million in tuition fees under the scholarship programme.
“We are sorting all of them out,” she said.
“Their documents are being processed and as soon as that is done, payments should be made. If all goes well they should receive their papers by next week.”
Deputy administrator Social Services Robin Bazzinuc said the hold-up in the payment was because the university had failed to send the “statement” to the provincial administration.
“As soon as our treasury department gets that statement, we will process the payments,” Bazzinuc said.
“We also have an excess payment with University of Papua New Guinea still sitting there so we can use that money to offset the debt,” he said.
The excess amount is more than K50,000
