Students challenged ‘to have big dreams’

YOUNG students must be challenged to continue on with their education into tertiary institutions, and should always look towards a brighter future.
This was said by Morobe Tertiary Students’ Union president Albert Nigo when donating stationery and a printer worth K1000 to Lanakapi Lutheran Primary School at Bumayong, Lae, on Friday.
The community outreach by more than 30 students supported an awareness programme on violence and drugs in schools.
“Young students must have bigger dreams in life, and must always look at themselves 10 to 20 years from now,” Nigo said.
“The younger generations must have visions.”
Chairman of MTSU Jonathan Mambere said the students are happy to give back to their communities.
“We want to reach the lower grades, and encourage the primary school students, especially in Morobe, to bring the standard of education to where it used to be,” Mambere said.
“We have been the recipients of the provincial government scholarship programme, and it’s a must that we make an effort in supporting upcoming intellects in our communities.
Head teacher Sharon Mamangi said the school is 99 per cent Morobe because it was established in 1988 for students from Lae, Nabak, Kabwum and Pindiu (La-Na-Ka-Pi.
She thanked the MTSU students for setting a great example.
“This is the first time Morobe students from tertiary institutions visited the school and give donations,” Mamangi said.
