STUDENTS, teachers and staff of from Holy Trinity Demonstration Primary School conducted a a clean-a-thon around Mt Hagen on Saturday.

The students cleared piles of rubbish in the city  that had not been collected for the past two weeks because of a strike by city authority workers claiming they had not been paid for nine fortnights were cleared by the pupils.

The job enabled them to raise money for two events in June.

Pupils collected rubbish from St Paul’s before moving on to the main shopping centre and bus stops.

Every corner of the city had rubbish piled up.

The school administration decided to take the initiative to clean the rubbish because no one had cared.

Clean-a-thon team leader Sera Joseph said Mt Hagen was the country’s third city and it was disgusting to see rubbish piling up for that long.

She said rubbish was everywhere, making the city look ugly.

Joseph said the clean-a-thon gave the school an opportunity to raise money to host two events in June.
