A PRIVATE training institution in Eastern Highlands is giving students a chance to become licensed aircraft maintenance engineers.
Aiyura Aircraft Maintenance Engineering School (AAMES) principal and cofounder Agion Aiako said the school was registered under the Civil Aviation Safety Authority (Casa).
“The purpose of the school is to give affordable, standardised aviation training to Papua New Guineans for the aviation industry in the country,” Aiako said.
Aiako, a retired aircraft maintenance engineer, said the school provided two years training to interested and qualified individuals who want to take up aircraft maintenance as a career.
“This sets them up to apply and sit for the aircraft maintenance engineer (AME) licensing examinations offered by Casa in Port Moresby.”
He said this year would be the school’s fifth year of operation and they were hoping to take in 24 new intakes when classes started on February 4.
According to the AAMES school profile, the National Training Council visited the school for inspection on July 6, 2018.
Aiako said the school aims to train more aircraft maintenance engineers for the air transport indutry and also helping students who cannot make it through formal education.
