THE first four beneficiaries of a memorandum of understanding signed earlier this year to increase technical education skills development in the country, and particularly in Western, graduated on June 29.

They are Jerry Rex, Rudy Simon, Lindsy Ensep and Timothy Derap.

The agreement signed between Ok Tedi Mining Ltd, the Fly River provincial government and the Office of Higher Education, has seen the first four students graduate with Certificate II in Mechanical and Electrical Engineering in Townsville, Australia, after completing their six-month intensive training.

The agreement between the three parties was signed in Port Moresby on March 8.

It paves way for 12 students to be chosen each year from Western to undergo technical skills training in TAFE colleges in Townsville and Cairns, Australia, through the Technical Vocational Education Training Skills Scholarship Programme (TVETSSP) up to 2016.
