FOUR students have been charged with arson following the burning of a dormitory last year at the Mainohana Secondary School in Kairuku, Central.

Provincial police commander Laimo Asi said four students – three females and one male – were arrested last weekend and charged with arson.

“The students, from Mekeo, are at the Boroko police cells,” Asi said.

The dormitory was a new one and funded by a donor agency.

Asi said two of the female suspects were in Grade 11 last year. The other is a technical student. The male students was in Grade 9.

“The male was the one who lit the match and the females poured petrol around the building,” he said.

He said police would continue to provide security at the school until investigations are completed.
