Students in Maprik visit parlt

STUDENTS from two secondary schools in Maprik, East Sepik, have been given an opportunity to travel to Port Moresby to visit the National Parliament, thanks to MP John Simon.
The highlight of the trip was visiting Parliament last week. Eighteen students from grades nine to 12 at Maprik and Brugam secondary schools had never travelled in an aircraft before.
Maprik Secondary School principal Alfred Akai said the trip was a motivational initiative to give the students a new educational experience.
Brugam Secondary School principal Sam Wambi said his school was in the hinterlands of Maprik and most of its students had never been outside the province.
Simon said human resource development was crucial for improving living standards and improving prospects of individuals and communities.
“Through this initiative I am building a platform to motivate students from Maprik to perform well – put more effort into their studies and character building,” Simon said.
He said it was important for secondary students to experience more of their country and to learn to interact with other Papua New Guineans.
The students would visit organisations and land marks in Port Moresby before returning home.
