MORE than 140 preschool aged children attending Gentamo Headstart School, in Lae, have been taught the importance of oral hygiene and how to brush their teeth.

Colgate Palmolive health educator Bernard Seneki and the popular Dr Rabbit mascot met the excited children yesterday as part of the company’s Bright Smiles, Bright Futures programme.

The youngsters were given toothpaste, toothbrushes and oral hygiene charts.

“The main goals of this educational programme is to increase responsibility for oral dental health and promote positive self-esteem, promote proper habits for oral hygiene, improve oral health with the help of fluoride toothpaste and encourage families to play a role in their child’s oral health,” Seneki said.

The programme is an initiative in over 80 countries and 30 languages and directed at the younger group of school children.

Parents, mostly mothers, who accompanied their children, were told to encourage brushing twice a day.
