A GROUP of 17 Papua New Guinea students have been given scholarships by China to study at various universities there.

During a farewell reception last week, Office of Higher Education acting assistant director Francis Hualupmomi told the students that the onus was on them to prove that they deserved the opportunity by doing well in their study.

He said apart from achieving the purpose of being there, they should bring back to PNG the benefits of learning in a country which has a strong economic power with rich cultural heritage and traditions.

“Represent the country, your organisations and your family with honesty and dignity and take the opportunity to prepare yourself well to be valuable resources to PNG when you return,” he said.

Hualupmomi thanked China for being a close friend to PNG in terms of business, trade and education and hoped that the initiative would continue to strengthen the two countries’ relationship.
