A TEAM of Grade 9-12 students in Port Moresby visited a burial site on Wednesday as part of their school holiday programme.
They were taken to the Bomana Correctional Services grounds to learnt techniques of excavation with National Museum and Art Gallery chief archaeologist Herman Mandui.
Mandui gave practical lessons to the students studying history subjects in secondary schools.
He said the site at Bomana was first excavated in 1996 when a correctional officer noticed remains of humans there.
The site at Bomana is in a residential area at the Correctional Services and gives a good background on how consultation processes are involved while negotiating with different stakeholders before an excavation is conducted on a site.
“It helps them understand mankind and the human existence of our people.”
The programme began on Monday and will end today.
