FUNDS raised from the Milne Bay Day celebration held in Port Moresby will be used to conduct awareness programme in communities back in the province, a student says.
Milne Bay Student Union president Brandt Kibikibi said they usually conducted awareness programmes in secondary and high schools at the end of every year.
He said funds raised would be used to hold awareness events in the communities and villages.
“We would like to extend the awareness to the communities,” Kibikibi said. “To educate them on the basics of book-keeping, proposal writing and other useful information that will help them.
“This is because more people in the villages and communities are engaging in small businesses.”
Kibikibi said K20,000 was raised in last year’s fundraising events.
“Those funds were donated to James Chalmers Technical High School in Suau,” he said.
Kibikibi said the use of the funds were audited yearly and the financial report was then presented to the incoming executive.
The Milne Bay Day is an initiative of the Milne Bay Student Union of the University of PNG and supported by the Milne Bay community in Port Moresby.
