ACTIVITIES and classes at the PNG University of Technology (Unitech) campus in East Taraka, Lae, were stopped on Friday after some female students were robbed by criminals.
Unitech student representative senate (SRS) president Denzel Komun said 21 students who reside at the Rainforest Habitat dorm were robbed at around 11pm on Thursday.
He said two of them were injured.
He said the students were sent to reside there due to shortage of rooms.
Komun said the incident would not have happened if the administration had done something about it when the SRS raised that concern a week ago.
“I brought it up to the administration, our girls are living in a dark place, the water is not working, the power is not working, there is no security,” he said.
“Where is the administration’s stance on this? How they left them for 12 weeks and not done anything about it.”
Komun said the administration and the student body were there to work together for the students’ welfare.
He said it was more than an institutional problem as it involved government funding.
Vice chancellor Dr Ora Renagi said the university’s administration would consider the terms of the petition and work with the student body.
“I’m sorry for the disruption to your studies we will be responsible and come down and hear your words,” he said.
