East Sepik students attending the University of PNG finally returned home yesterday, thanks to the provincial government.
East Sepik Student Union (Essu) patron Terence Moka on Tuesday presented 39 tickets to the self-sponsored students after the termination of the academic year.
Moka said the tickets, worth K47,000, were issued and the provincial government would settle payment later.
“It was a very dramatic period of uncertainty to make sure students’ interests were facilitated,” he said.
“I’m happy that the students are going home.” Moka encouraged them to start thinking positively about their future.
“I believe that your future is not spoiled and what has happened is just a curve in your lives,” he told them.
Essu president Stanley Warren thanked the East Sepik provincial administration and government for their assistance.
Students from other districts such as Yangoru-Saussia, Wewak and Maprik attending the university of Papua New Guinea were understood to have been repatriated home by their districts.
