Students should not waste great opportunities
The National, Thursday February 27th, 2014
POSITIVE responses for subsidising school fees have been given to the Governor of Southern Highlands William Powi by students from the province attending various tertiary institutions.
As a governor, it is his duty to perform after considering that skilled human resource is vital to any organisation to try to outsmart the opponents .
Accordingly, students should stop bragging about his style of leadership and ask, what they will do and how they will contribute to the province.
Let us say that the governor was just thinking outside his confined space to come up with such initiative to cut out a huge slice of money from the provincial wallet to invest in education.
His action was a relief for school-fee-pressured parents as most students were brought-up from poor background where their parents’ incomes were largely based on selling home-grown cash crops.
Moreover, students will have some extra money to buy material and equipment to enhance their learning capabilities.
The provincial government has done its part and the onus is now on the students to excel.
Remember, those kinas should be used to impact rural grassroots by building a bridge, aid post or a road rather than students.
These students are the most fortunate ones to have their school fees subsidised.
So get the most out of it, study smart and excel in your field or programme of studies.
Do not just be a statistic but know that deep down in your heart that you have a special gift to make a difference, that you can touch others in a special way and make this world a better place.
