MORE than 600 early childhood students in ward 12 of Watut local level government (LLG) in Bulolo, Morobe, will enjoy learning in their new classrooms once completed, a ward councillor says.
Councillor Levi Zure said early childhood learning was a priority in his ward this year and its developmental funds from the LLG would be put to building classrooms to cater for this area of education.
“I am very pleased with the leadership of Watut LLG president Waka Daimon who has approved K80,000 which I will commit to build classrooms for the children,” Zure said.
Watut LLG has 12 wards and over the years, the LLG has been providing development funds to projects planned by its councillors.
Zure said over the last 15 years, Leklu early childhood school had been using church buildings as classrooms for its three classes but this was soon to end as the church property was to be used for other urgent services.
To mark the start of construction of the school’s first classroom and office, a brief groundbreaking ceremony was officiated by Daimon last Sunday at Leklu village.
Zure said the ward development committee had agreed unanimously to have the classrooms built as quickly as for students to use.
“With this project, we would like to have two double classrooms and an office block,” he said.
The school buildings once completed will cater for children from Leklu and four neighbouring villages.
Daimon said he would fund another double classroom depending on the number of students this year.
“I will support the initiative that the ward development committee has taken for the education of our children,” he said.
