RECENT graduates from the University of Papua New Guinea have been challenged to venture into business or other income generating activities as a way of life and for their prosperity.

NCD Governor Powes Parkop told the students Papua New Guineans will continue to be job seekers, selling their labour and expertise to create someone else’s wealth and prosperity if they do not learn and develop the ability to start viable income generating business.

“We will never create wealth and employment for ourselves and our nation will suffer.

“Our graduands must be the people who can go out there and if they can secure wage employment they must have the ability or innovative skills to go into business or other income generating activities,” Parkop said.

He said 70% of the economy still remains foreign owned.

He said all sectors of the formal economy from mining and hydro carbon development  are largely under foreign ownership.
