OVER the past three weeks schools in the National Capital District have been visiting the Australian High Commission in Waigani, Port Moresby, to view the travelling exhibition Message Stick Indigenous Identity in urban Australia.
Students from Grades 7 to 11 studying history and expressive arts have a fresh view of contemporary visual art after seeing Message Stick.
Students said they found the 22 pieces of artwork mind-provoking and full of under-lying messages of Australia’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and cultures.
The exhibition was launched early this month by High Commissioner Ian Kemish.
It is open for viewing to the public until Dec 9 and from here, the exhibition travels to Cape Town, South Africa.
The Message Stick is part of the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade
touring exhibition programme.
