Students warned of exchanging favours for grades

UNIVERSITY of Goroka (UoG) students have been warned not to exchange favours for grades.
Chancellor Joseph Sukianomb issued the warning last Monday while opening orientation week.
“Do not exchange favours, in both cash and kind, with lecturers for grades.
“You should work hard to earn good grades.”
Sukwianomb told the students to manage their time, especially, on social media and avoid spending too much time on Facebook.
“Make a commitment on your time usage and stick by it by managing your time well,” Sukianomb said.
In his list off “dos and don’ts”, Sukwianomb urged students to seek out fellow students with similar values and ideals and build relationships that would benefit them academically and professionally. He encouraged the students to take their studies seriously and to be committed to doing what was necessary to achieve their goals.
He told them to take pride in every aspect of being a student at a tertiary institution and that meant their behaviour, language, dressing and interactions with each other and staff.
He also encouraged students to look after the university’s infrastructure and facilities as it would not only serve them, but other students in the future.
“You must always keep your rooms and bathrooms clean and tidy every day as you are privileged to be given a space in the dormitory and avoid loud noise in the campus especially classrooms and dormitories,” he said.
