Studies start

 THE University of Papua New Guinea is expecting to register more than 6,800 students for the first semester, Pro Vice Chancellor academic and student affairs, Pulapa Subba Rao says. 

Rao said this during the university’s orientation programme yesterday at the main lecture theatre on its Waigani campus, in the National Capital District.

He said there were 1,310 first-year stu­dents joining 5,536 continuing students and they expected to register 6,836 students for the first semester. 

He reminded students of their purpose to study at the university and told them the university helped them to facilitate their goals.

He said whatever resources were available should be used wisely to add to more value to their studies.

He said at the university students must practice good citizenship, good governance and self-control. 

Papua New Guinea Human Resource Institute president, Jerry Wemin reminded students that their vocation for their fours years of study at the university was as a student. 

“So, train your selves to be effective managers,” he said.

“Act with a purpose and have a sense of where you want to go and try to be ethical as doing the right thing in a wrong way is wrong,” he said

Students were told that the university’s fees had not increased from that of previous years.
