Subsidise air fares

Letters

COFFEE is one commodity that contributes towards the economy of the country.
It helps some remote areas in terms of financial burdens such as school fees.
Marawaka, in Eastern Highlands, is very remote and heavily depends on coffee and pigs to pay for school fees and other basic goods and services.
Marawaka is the so-called land of pure organic coffee, however, due to inconsistent coffee buyers, growers are largely ignored.
The local MP, through the DDA, must intervene and make a budget plan to subsidise airfares rather than use the area’s rough terrain and inaccessibility as an excuse.
This means if the airfare is K350, then the district should subsidise K150 so people pay K200.
This would a better solution for coffee buyers or businesses and government agencies out there to not only buy coffee, but to transport store goods, school materials and provide health services.
On behalf up of the Marawaka community, I thank you, Governor Peter Numu, for reaching the unreachable through the coffee initiative since the Rumbia Coffee Exports will make the community realise the importance and impact of coffee.
