Suburban sports concept lauded
The National – Friday, July 8, 2011
THE initiative taken by the National Capital District Governor Powes Parkop to introduce the Port Moresby suburban sports competition is an opportunity for the youth and others to showcase their talents.
Ela Beach Basketball club patron Moses Nap said this after selecting players to participate at the fourth National Souths Basketball championships in Madang next weekend.
He said the players in the squad were from the suburban sports competition and would be making their debut at the tournament.
The players are training at the PNG Education Institute in Waigani. They are expected to travel to Madang next week.
The future looks bright for the suburban basketball competition and it should be an eye opener for the players competing in the tournament.
“The future also looks bright basketball at the grassroots level. “I have seen a lot of raw talents at the suburban level and it is really amazing. All credit goes to Parkop and Port Moresby suburban sports association president Billy Aki,” Nap said.
The players, who have been training for the past few weeks, are in their final preparations.
“They will go out there to compete with some of the national representatives and others in the tournament and it is good to watch these players from the suburb showcase their talents,” he said.
