THE Port Moresby NCD Suburban Rugby League women’s competition ended its regular season round on a high note over the weekend.

Match coordinator Noel Mapa said a top-six finals format would be used.

“We are going to advise the eight women’s teams of the standings this week and release a finals draw,” Mapa said.

“This is the first time that we will be using the format, which is good for the women’s competition as it gives a chance for the top two teams to advance to the final.

“The same format is being used in the Queensland Cup this season,” he said.

The Waigani Cowgirls claimed the minor premiership.

Mapa said the Cowgirls had proven to be the team to beat in the 2015 NCD Governor’s Cup.

But he expects tough opposition from the Morata Swans in the finals.
