Suggestion supported

Letters

I WRITE in support of the magistrate of Buka district court Bruce Tasikul’s suggestion to review Family Protection Act as published in The National yesterday.
I am a victim of this grey area.
My now ex-wife became promiscuous and started going out with several men while I went to study for two years
After completing and returning from my study, she sued me for desertion as a cover-up to further pursue her infidelity.
The court took its toll on me financially and physically.
I was acquitted by the family court of Port Moresby as an offender, which paid little attention to my plea or defence.
The court made a decision in the woman’s favour and she was granted custody of my children.
I was ordered to pay maintenance for the children while we divorced.
That was daylight injustice to me.
I am sure a lot of men in Papua New Guinea will agree with me that the act has fallen short of really serving its purpose: To promote safe, stable and strong families and to protect domestic violence in the community.
In my case, the court did not consider that the matter was self-construed.
Currently, I am not able to challenge the matter in a higher court due to financial constraints.
I appeal to the responsible agencies and Minister for Justice and Attorney-General Davis Steven, on behalf of suppressed male stake holders of this nation, to seriously look into the flaws in this particular act.
The way I see it, the act was meant to protect women folk in a way that encourages them to aggrieve their male partners.
Please it must stop somewhere.
I am a living victim of the imbalance in the Family Protection Act since 2012.
I welcome advice from those who can help.
I can be contacted on 76249412.
