Sumkar people suffering from prolonged drought

LAST year’s draught had affected many rural farmers and brought great suffering to the rural areas.

The O’Neill Government instructed MPs to use a portion of their DSIP funds to cater for the draught.

We understand that from the K15m about k2m was to be allocated for relief assistance.

I don’t know how these funds have been used to help our suffering people.

I am from Sumkar district in Madang and have not seen anything done since last year.

Food is still scarce and other cash crops like cocoa and copra are also affected.

Instead of helping our suffering people, our local MP is distributing mango pawa trucks throughout our draught stricken district.

Our people are starving at this critical time and the MP does not make any sense distributing trucks and yet while many feeder roads are in very poor stage.

Sumkar people must think seriously about their future and ensure that they elect leaders who will care for them in times of need.

Karkar, Madang
