Superannuation fund to roll ID programme

THE National Superannuation Fund (Nasfund) will roll out a identification card programme next year, according to Member Services chief officer Charlie Gilichibi.
It will see new features added on to the member identification cards. It will be free and make the validation process much faster. “We will get all members to provide their existing membership cards and we will reissue new cards,” he said.
“There are two currently two types of numbers that we have in our system – the member number and the product number. The member number is on the ID cards. The product number is not on the ID cards. “We will include that number on the ID cards next year.
“Only a member number alone is not strong enough to validate your identity. So we will include the product number so that if you leave one employer and go to the next employer, your ID card already shows your membership number and your product number.
“You bring those two numbers and give a copy of your ID card to your payroll and they can stick it inside the payroll system.
“So when we get contributions coming in from employers, we can go and identify exactly if members exist in the system.
