Support Covid-19 research team

Letters

IT is good that new groups such as the Niugini Biomed Ltd is interested in conducting research in medicine and science.
I don’t know whether the PNG Institute of Medical Research was consulted because lead researchers from such reputable organisations always take lead in research in such disciplines.
Research protocols for any research involving human subjects should meet the medical research advisory council’s standards and approval.
All pharmaceutical drugs described to be studied are currently used around the world, they are somebody else’s discovery and not ours.
Let us discover our own. Thanks to the team highlighting an area where there are several major and long-term studies involving a large population base, reputable collaborating research organisations and their laboratories, scientists of multiple disciplines, time, money and resources.
This is necessary to determine the compatibility of more than one drug against each other when combined into one substance, assessing their effects on multiple microbes in the laboratory, trialing their dosages and frequency on laboratory animals and finally arriving at human trials.
The research takes a very long time but it is one that can be achieved, thanks to the initiative by the new team.
The hypothesis on a cure for Covid-19 at this time may not sound logical to many but I believe the team has started something here that may lead to a new horizon.
What’s needed here is for the lead researchers in this new team to step on the milestone they have achieved, collaborate with other and reputable scientific research organisations within the region and around the world, seek Government funds and start the ball rolling.
We are with you.
