PORT Moresby Rugby Football League club Dobo Warriors received sponsorship support, worth K45,000, from Water Papua New Guinea for their 2021 campaign.
The sponsorship covers three sets of jerseys, club affiliation, player registration and other requirements.
Water PNG chairman Hubert Namani said following the merger with Eda Ranu, Water PNG has reaffirmed its commitment to continue supporting the club under the same partnership made by Eda Ranu.
“We are now carrying the commitments that Eda Ranu made,” he said.
“What used to be Eda Ranu behind Dobo Warriors is actually now Water PNG behind Dobo Warriors.
“This is a new era and together we are committed to the future, so we will support them going forward under the same partnership.
“On behalf of the board of management under Water PNG, I’m just reaffirming that our partnership still stands and we move forward under Water PNG now.”
Water PNG officer-in-charge Parkop Kurua said part of the sponsorship included support to the Koiari community.
“So the total sponsorship is about K100,000,” Kurua said.
“For the Warriors, we are committed to supporting them with K45,000 in the outfits that they have. We will continue to support them as and when required, the club officials will come and we can look at what we can support them with this season.”
Club president Doe Kevaru acknowledged Water PNG for continuing Eda Ranu’s commitment.
“We’ll do our best in the competition this year,” he said.
“With your support, we will aim to produce good players to represent Dobo Warriors in the inter-city competition (Digicel Cup).”
Former Papua New Guinea international and one-time SP Hunters forward Adam Korave is a product of the Warriors.
