THE Surfing Association of PNG has staged another sell-out three-date screening of the film Splinters in the United Kingdom.

The screenings were held in Porthtowan, London and Bristol.

More than  £4000 (K16,652) was raised for the PNG Surf Project.

The money will be used to purchase surfing boards for PNG surf clubs.

One lucky ticket holder won a trip for two to PNG.

High Commissioner for PNG, Winnie Kiap attended the London screening during which British surfing champion Alan Stokes and Irish surf activist Easkey Britton announced the winner of the trip to PNG.

“It was a highly successful mini tour and a great start to the project and for PNG surfing.”

“We believe this will form the foundation of an ongoing relationship between surfers from the UK and surfers in PNG.”

Twenty-six year-old Freddie Holland from Bristol was drawn as the winner of the trip to PNG.

“Still can’t believe the news,” said an ecstatic  Holland.

“Since I saw the film Splinters, I knew that surfing and exploring Papua New Guinea was definitely high on my to-do list.  “Thrilled is an understatement. Thank you so much to SAPNG and the guys at Splinters for organising the trip of a lifetime,” he added.

Holland will be joined on the trip by Stokes and Britton.

They will be visiting PNG in the first week of February next year and will be hosted by the SAPNG.

During their stay, they will visit some of the host communities and surf at locations that are part of  Surfing PNG’s surf management plan.

They will present some of the boards that were paid for from the funds raised.
