Surprise dishes for singsing groups
The National, Thursday July 9th, 2015
MOROBE Governor Kelly Naru sprung a surprise on singsing groups camped at the Education Institute when he brought them food.
Scores of people from Oro, Jiwaka, Chimbu, Gulf, East Sepik, Southern Highlands, Enga and Central enjoyed the dishes of mumu pork and vegetables he brought.
The singsing groups, selected from around the country, had participated in the opening of the South Pacific Games last Saturday.
Naru gave K400 to each group.
He said the food was initially intended for a group from Morobe but he found out that they had left for Lae on the early flight that morning.
“We all have left home so we must look after each other,” he said.
He said the gesture was part of the province’s church partnership programme. “If you love God, you have to love others too. It’s no use saying you love God and don’t follow it up with action.”
He pledged K20,000 to the PNG Education Institute to further its work.
Naru did the same at the Melanesian Festival of Arts in Port Moresby last year by making a surprise visit to the festival venue and donated money to provincial groups.
