Suspect killed by relatives
The National, Friday February 12th, 2016
THE alleged killing of a man on Monday near the Bomana jail had resulted from an incident last Saturday at a farm outside Port Moresby, police say.
Gordon police station commander Senior Inspector Joseph Salle said the deceased from Goilala, Central, with four other suspects attempted to rob a police mobile squad member who was returning from a visit to relatives at the farm.
“In the attempt, the suspects slashed the policeman’s arm, and he in turn wounded one of them to defend himself while the others escaped,” Salle said.
He said the police officer was rushed to Port Moresby General Hospital and is recovering.
He said on Monday, relatives of the wounded suspect confronted another suspect (now deceased) and accused him of involving the relative in the attempted robbery of the officer and chopped him.
Police, who were on the lookout for the suspects later confirmed that their victim killed by relatives at Bomana was one of suspects involved in the incident.
Meanwhile, Salle said two police officers alleged to have killed a man at a city nightclub last Saturday appeared in court yesterday.
The two would join the 15 police officers who were scheduled to appear in court this week, charged with various offences.
