THREE suspected cop killers, including a son of a policeman, were arrested for allegedly slaying a police constable in Madang’s Mildas Market on Friday.
Madang police are in the hunt for another two suspected cop killers on the run.
Madang police commander acting Supt Mazu Rubiang told The National that one of the detained suspect’s father “is serving at a police station in Madang”.
“All the suspects involved in the killing of PC Franko Horaki have been identified. They are all from East Sepik’s Angoram but are residing in Madang town,” he said, adding that community leaders were working closely with the police to capture the remaining suspected cop killers.
“The duo on the run must surrender to make it easy for themselves and facilitate investigations,” he said.
“You have to make yourself available to the police to clear yourself if you are not involved in the killing.”
He said the three suspects had been arrested and charged.
He said the situation in Madang was still tense but “under control” following the killing that sparked public unrest and the burning of houses in the Wagol settlement.
Horaki, 27, was killed by drunkard youths in the market just outside Jomba police station and the barracks.
Meanwhile, Northern Region Asst Comm (ACP) Peter Guinness condemned the killing of PC Horaki.
“What the youths in Mildas Market did to PC Horaki is unforgiveable,” he said. “They should show respect to the hard working policemen in Madang and nationwide.
“PC Horaki had approached them because they were committing an offence by drinking homebrew in public.
“They were not drinking in their house, so PC Horaki was only doing his duty by talking to them.”
ACP Guinness urged the public to respect policemen who confronted them to point out their wrongs or mistakes.
“They are only doing their job to uphold public safety and, law and order.”

  • This group of people has to be properly dealt with. The son of the police man is the result of his father’s ignorant, therefore his father should also be implicated.
give them death sentence as this people are some of the main problem creators in Madang.

  • Sam, it is not the crowd doing these thing, just a few but majority is victimized, cause of the connection that is attached to families, tribalism, regionalism etc. The father Policeman did not planned organised meeting to kill the police constable, The state of mind the father policeman is in is same as to the relatives of the deceased Police constable, we should have pity for both sides, its the Devil that has brought sadness, fear, bloodshed
& problems after problems into our lives, only we will be saved is in the protection of our Lord, we need repent, for the Kingdom of God is at hand, turn to God…….

  • Joe that’s true but discipline begins at home…if he had been brought up with good descipline he wouldn’t be in that situation……anyway it’s not ok to destroy other innocent Angorams properties. The police must hunt down the only youths involved and let them face justice…maximum of life imprisonment.

  • The youths involved in the killing of the police officer, and the rogue police officers who burnt and destroy innocent people’s property all should be dealth according under the Constrituation of PNG.
What both parties have all ready commited is a criminal offence. The society have no room for murders and rogue police officer. Law is always there to deal with any situtation, that is the whole purpose of law.
When both parties are dealth accordingly with the law per thier actions, that will send a meassge to the general public and the other police office that there is law and no body is above the law and we are all required to respect the law because every sitizens of this country regardless, are all protected under the Constitution of this country.

    • Kalalau Nangoi, I affirm with your comments that the crime committed by all parties must be punishable by rule of law within our constitution.
On the issue of parental obligations by other author, involving and blaming the father of the youth involved is not a solution to drug related offense causing loss of life, the offender is an adult acting independently under influence and must face the consequences of loss of life of the policeman.
One must understand the situation of the policeman whose son is involved and the loss of a Comrade at the same time.

  • The only just penalty for the crooks involved in this crime is the death penalty.
The cop was doing his job. He is a HERO.
