Suspended police official seeks redress over suspension
The National, Thursday July 24th, 2014
THE Waigani National Court will today hear the case of suspended Assistant Commission of Police for Operations Simon Kauba.
Kauba has filed judicial review proceedings challenging his suspension, naming the National Executive Council and the State as defendants.
He has filed an application seeking to stay the NEC decision to suspend him pending the determination of the judicial review proceedings.
The matter will be heard before Justice Les Gavara-Nanu.
Kauba’s lawyer Wesley Bigy told the court on Tuesday that he was ready to proceed with the leave application for judicial review and the stay application.
State lawyers informed the court the matter had been briefed to a private law firm to represent the state.
The state lawyer said they needed an adjournment to give Attorney-General Ano Pala time to sign the documents to confirm the brief-out.
Counsels agreed for the matter to be heard today.
