Suspension illegal: Union
The National, Tuesday May 13th, 2014
A TRADE union representing teachers has branded as “illegal” the suspension of Mt Hagen Technical College principal Henry Mambil by the Teachers Service Commission.
The suspension was over the alleged misuse of funds and for not following the Teachers Service Act.
PNG Teachers Association Highlands regional secretary John Melson said the Teachers Service Commission, the college administration and the governing council failed to follow proper procedures in suspending Mambil.
“The copy of the suspension letter did not reach my office and I was not informed. I see this as illegal as proper orders under the Teachers Service Act were by-passed,” he said.
Mambil was suspended for 14 days after he allegedly spent K494,639 from the college operational fund.
