National sporting administrator John Susuve has been appointed chairman of the Melanesian Spearhead Group (MSG) sports committee in Port Vila, Vanuatu.
Susuve took over the reins from John Foteliwale of the Solomon Islands.
“It’s a challenging task for me,” Susuve said.
“But at same time, I’m privileged to be recognised at the MSG level.”
Susuve was the director of major events and marketing with the Papua New Guinea Sports Foundation.
The committee is meeting in Vanuatu this week.
Susuve said on the agenda were the memorandum of understanding on sports cooperation, MSG sports charter and the hosting of the inaugural Melanesian Youth Games.
“Under my chairmanship, I wish to excel in ensuring there is clear pathway and guidelines to enhance key prospects on the way forward at the MSG level,” Susuve said.
He said the West New Britain administration was also in Vanuatu putting forward a proposal to host the inaugural Melanesian Youth Games.
Susuve said West New Britain was confident of delivering such sporting event after hosting the PNG Games last year. “The West New Britain team will present its proposal before the committee to deliberate further on its interest,” he said.
Members at the meeting are Fiji, the Solomon Islands, Front de Libération Nationale Kanak et Socialiste (New Caledonia), Vanuatu and PNG.
