ANUYA Youth Skills Rehabilitation Centre in Lae, Morobe, has delivered trophies and food to prisoners at Buimo Jail to end their Easter games.
The centre with the help of Lae Ever Clean foundation donated trophies and food to prisoners to support the prison’s Easter games, which will end tomorrow.
Centre manager and programme director Willie Mayang said the prisoners took part in rugby sevens and soccer games within the prison to celebrate Easter.
He thanked Ever Clean for the support given to the prisoners saying, the support is part of the rehabilitation programme that is going on in Buimo prison.
“As facilitator, the helping hand given by Lae Ever Clean and other partners so far is sure to have a positive impacts on the lives of those prisoners after being released from serving their terms,” Mayang said.
He said the prisoners needed to be rehabilitated through programmes that help detainees get their minds off negative things about life.
He said there are programmes and activities already in place in the prison but needed external support to implement.
Some of the rehabilitation activities that are currently under way in Buimo are Bible studies and quizes, sports, life skills trainings and others.
Mayang said after working closely with prisoners, he found out that the prisoners want SME trainings and other life skills trainings like carpentry, mechanic and others.
