Swift action must be taken

AMIDST the backdrop of promises to opt out of leadership roles if not elected, desperation and reckless wanton disrespect for election laws have besieged General Election 2022.
The whole country is looking to those leaders to keep those public promises which, in hindsight, were regretted by the utterers the moment they spoke.
Knowing that their promises could not be kept if the proper and legally sanctioned processes were followed, these desperate leaders realise they have to win through dishonest means.
Now there are reports of lives being lost and tribal wars and hooliganism are rearing up in the streets of the nation’s capital.
Candidates and their warlords are terrorising innocent city residents and people are in fear.
This is, without doubt, the worst election and if it were any other democracy, the head of the government should admit his culpability and resign.
Our forefathers who wrote our Constitution are turning in their graves seeing the power-hungry so-called leaders fight each other.
They had hoped leaders would take ownership of their actions and resign in honour if their leadership failed the people.
Instead, these power-hungry politicians are causing more distress and fatalities in the population they are supposed to have care and concern for.
The governor-general must seek an explanation from Electoral Commissioner Simon Sinai to declare GE22 as failed and it must be done immediately so all the destruction and warring can be brought to an end.
A caretaker emergency government of respected senior statesmen, headed by Sir Julius Chan, should be put in place.
This country is on the brink of collapse and some drastic measures are called for.
We’ve had enough of politicians thinking they own PNG.
