PNG Swimming Incorporated received K80,000 from Bank South Pacific yesterday afternoon as part of the bank’s annual donation towards improving swimming in the country at the Taurama Leisure Centre poolside.
The annual supportive funding that has been ongoing since 2002 between the mentioned bodies, has seen PNG Swimming Inc and its aquatic excellence and development programmes improve the standard of the sport.
At poolside to present the cheque was BSP sports ambassador Ryan Pini alongside the bank’s group chief executive officer Ian Clyne who handed the cheque for K80,000 to PNGSI president Elizabeth Wells witnessed by members of the organisation.
Wells thanked the bank for its continuous support toward the sport.
She assured everyone at the meet that the swimming programmes under the PNGSI were improving.
Most of the upcoming athletes were doing extremely well.
Pini, who is an inspiration to the junior swimmers, encouraged them to strive for excellence.
Ryan is in the country as BSP’s speaker at a combined Olympic luncheon at Gateway Hotel tomorrow.
