THE Pacific Games swimming competition continues this morning at the BSP Arena at Taurama as swimmers vow to give their best shot.

The events will be men’s 50m freestyle, women’s 200m individual medley, men’s 200m butterfly, women 100m butterfly, men’s 100m backstroke and women’ 800 freestyle 4x200m relay.

PNG swimmers to feature in today’s events include Samuel Segher, pictured, Leo Biggs and Ryan Pini in the 50m backstroke, and in the women’s 200m, Barbara Vali-Skelton and Tkatchenko sisters, Ebony and Savannah. The highlight would be the men’s 100 backstroke which will see Ryan Pini again and Nathan Nadesalingam.

They will be up against Tormento Hug and Teiki Dupont of New Caledonia.

The finals of the men’s 200m backstroke tomorrow (Saturday) will be the highlight for 2015 Pacific Games as PNG swim legend Ryan Pini may call it quits after the Games.

In a previous interview, Ryan said he may not compete at this level as this would be his last Pacific Games at home. Pini, who has collected four gold medals, will be vying for the fifth in 200m backstroke at BSP Arena Aquatic Centre.

The PNG champion will go into this event as third favourite.  He will be up against Jagger Steven from Guam, Teiki Dupont from Tahiti, Hugo Toremento of New Caledonia plus a host of other champions of these events.
